Although he wanted to forget what had happened at the hospital, Thomas tried to analytically remember how it felt when he’d #upset the crash cart and pushed Dr. West. All he could think of was he hadn’t felt human. Maybe that was it.

Charles dropped his easygoing manner and sat straight up in his seat. “Wait, this is your third day as a vampire? And you went to the forest?”

Vivian said something in a language Thomas didn’t #understand and patted Charles’ hand.

“I apologize for Charlie. He can be excitable,” she explained. “I think it’s generational.”

“Why thank you,” Julia said with a laugh as she stepped inside. “But #unfortunately, we don’t get the benefits of thresholds like humans do. Keep that in mind. Other vampires might slip in and pay you a visit late one night.”

If there wasn’t a chemical stink of disinfectant clogging the air, it was replaced with more #unpleasant smells like unwashed bodies or bedpans.

Sean’s face furrowed in confusion, “Wait, you want #us to believe someone drank your blood and that’s not the important part?” Sean smiled again. “Priority check for Thomas Spencer.”

“Well . . . you’ve heard me talk about Sean. . . .”

Benjamin’s eyes narrowed. “If this is about a breakup I’m going to be very #upset with how bad you scared me.”

“Listen, I’ve lived in this city for quite some time and I know that this city is #unique. There are certain unbelievable populations who live here,” Clara replied, doing her best to be diplomatic and vague for both her safety and the safety of her relationship with Sean.

She wanted to scream in #utter frustration. She couldn’t warn her pack or organize them to strike the Howlers if she couldn’t find anyone. The wolf picked up on her irritation and fed on it. She had to calm down or she’d lose it.

Sprawled across a couch with several books and old videocassette tapes heaped randomly on the floor nearby. She would never #understand how someone could possibly spend more time agonizing over which book to read or movie to watch than reading or watching them.

Distrust flashed through her brother’s eyes as he sat up, pushing away some cassettes so Clara could sit down. Thanks to a series of #unfortunate relationships, bad luck, and the constant maintenance of his curse, Benjamin was quick to suspicion.

“She didn’t kill anyone. The Crone hasn’t left this property since you were a twinkle in your granddad’s eye,” a British accent cut through the darkness. “She calls to #us through our dreams because she cannot defend herself.”
