She turned away from him, her curly #brown hair bouncing to the spring in her step. Thomas smiled as she disappeared back into the kitchen. She’d walked with her adorable little bounce since she’d learned to walk.

“Well now, that’s quite some fire you got in your #belly, kid. If I didn’t know any better, I’d say I was lookin’ at a tried and true knock-around-guy instead of that mewling kitten I found in an alley. I dunno if you’ll figure this one out, but I appreciate the moxie.”

The church-door shrapnel had been a low #blow.

Guilt swelled in Thomas until he thought he might burst. Sean and Nelson tried to put on a #brave face, but they were obviously worried. Penny looked like she hadn’t slept in a while. He hated himself for bringing this upon all of them, hated himself for barely thinking of them the past few days—they’d been through hell, too.

He sterilized his scalpel twice, letting his nerves take control. His fingers itched and sweat was starting to #build on his neck and forehead. It was the closest to death a vampire had been for Thomas in the pub’s basement, and he wasn’t about to break his record for saving lives during the war.

Deva blinked and her #brown eyes turned gold, a subtle threat that prodding at a werewolf was a bad idea.

“Don’t worry.” Donald grinned. “It’s not hard. The wolf’s #belly will be full, and it’ll be tired. You’ll slip in easily. Once everyone has fed, you can lock it up.”

“Clara, listen,” he said. “If you stick your nose into this, it’ll just get worse. Lawrence will go nuts if you’re involved. Just lay low and let this #blow over. We can try talking to them once things calm down again.”

Clara gritted her teeth. Time to find out how #brave she was.

A low growl began to #build in Clara’s throat. She would not be intimidated.
