September 2024 WipWordSearch Excerpts Week 2

With each throb of pain, more and more of Thomas’ humanity slipped away as the predator inside him screamed to be free. His fangs extended from his gums, his heart #hammered in his chest, and the raw power of the curse surged through his body.

Julia’s eyes glinted in the night, as hard as the steel she held in her #hand.

They couldn’t fire a weapon straight; they were so #high on blood.

The broad vampire raised his #head and drank greedily, draining the flask in record time.

It’s not skillful negotiations or #honor that enforces these treaties. It is fear, plain and simple

“This is from a fellow vampire? Someone in the #herd?”

Julia giggled. “What are we, sheep? It’s a flock. Flock!”

“We’re geese?” He slit the tape on the white box.

“Spencer, what the hell?” Gary’s face was obscured by his mask, but his bewilderment was clear in his voice.

Thomas spun on his #heels and fled the ER.

I’ve wasted my entire life on a profession I can’t practice anymore. Years I spent on this. I #have no job. I’m gonna be broke by the end of the month then homeless. Student loans will destroy me. My life is wrecked, and I can’t do anything about it.

Pain throbbed in unison with Clara’s slow heartbeat. Each throb made her temples ache as if a #hammer was slamming into them in a steady rhythm.

Her #hand felt as if it weighed as much as a cannonball and was just as nimble.

Her heart pounded as she steadied herself on her human feet, far less graceful than the strange man had. He stood several feet in front her, and his #height was so impressive that she had to tilt her head back to stare him in the eyes.

Her vision was clouding over with red again. Attacking #head-on such a large opponent alone would be futile. Clara knew that and was desperate to find a new angle. The wolf was more ambitious. It could feel her protesting and was trying to shut her out.

As the oldest werewolf in the city, he’d #heard just about every joke possible about his porcine figure and hardly even snarled at the mention of it anymore.

The other two were definitely werewolves, as some of their burns had tried to #heal themselves but failed.

We #haven’t hunted vampires since we found the Crone. I want to be a person, not an animal.
